Abstract: This study investigates the impact of adult education on social cohesion, examining how educational programs designed for adults contribute to creating more cohesive and inclusive communities. The objectives were to assess the effectiveness of adult education in promoting social unity, to identify key elements that facilitate social cohesion through education, and to evaluate the challenges faced in implementing such programs. A survey research design was employed to gather data from participants enrolled in various adult education programs, providing comprehensive insights into their experiences and perceptions. A sample size of 300 adult learners was selected for robust analysis. The purposive sampling technique was used to target individuals actively participating in community-based adult education initiatives. The case study was conducted in Lagos, Nigeria, a city characterized by diverse cultural and social backgrounds. Findings indicated that adult education significantly enhanced social cohesion by fostering mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration among diverse groups. However, challenges such as funding limitations and resistance to change were identified. The study recommended increasing investment in adult education programs and promoting community engagement activities to strengthen social bonds.
